As the end of the of the semester comes to a close, David Allen’s Getting Things Done comes to a close as well. Lets reflect on some of the most important takeaways from this novel.
- Create a Work space: This concept makes so much sense to me. I need to be sitting at a table or a desk to focus on my work. If I am at home sitting on my bed, then I will not be motivated to do anything.
- Create a filing system: I have always thought I was an organized person. But with this novel, I have realized that staying organized turned out to be a bigger effort than I thought. Since I currently do not have a filing system, there are papers everywhere that should be together. There are separate projects that are becoming enmeshed together. Therefore, the idea of creating a filing system has been a big help.
- The 2-minute rule: I personally love this rule. If an action is less that 2 minutes, my normal thinking is that it does not take much time to complete. Therefore, I can wait to complete that task. However, this way of thinking just caused procrastination. Therefore, this rule really changed my way of thinking.
- Clear your mind at least once a week: I have never cleared everything off of my mind before. I have always been thinking about something as far back as I can remember. Therefore, in doing this task, it has given me motivation, as well as decrease my stress level. Also, I feel like I have more control of my surroundings.
- Other Quotes: There are some other small quotes throughout this book that I will remember forever. One example is “The mind is like water. When it’s calm, everything becomes clear.” Also, another quote I will always remember is “The mind was created to create ideas, not hold them.”
If you have been following along with me throughout this journey, what are some of your takeaways from recent blog posts about Getting Things Done?
